Urban Sprawl

 You remember the term 'Urban Sprawl'!

'Urban Sprawl' was the matrix, excuse and weapon used by politicians as they repeatedly and vociferously pontificated about the dire need to infill the municipality, to clean-up brownfields predicated primarily on preventing 'Urban Sprawl' into our precious agricultural lands.

To be fair most municipalities have and are adhering to this 'infill' policy.

Unfortunately, there are a few who take the easy road and simply grab at the least costly and most convenient route of expansion in their drive for more and more tax revenue.

A classic example of indiscriminate expansion is the callous effort put forth by the City of Welland, Ontario, a city where their attention could and should be made to spruce up their City's appearance and to make better use of their abundance of available property.

The City of Welland, Ontario has a history of abusive behavior toward its Citizens from infilling brownfields with imported carcinogens to callously destroying families over trumped-up petty excuses!

'News Alert Niagara' understands that a city administration must govern in the best interest of the entire city. According to City of Welland officials the destruction of the Rempel 25 Hector Farm 15 Hectors has already been spoken for leaving the city with less than 10 Hectors between 'No shovel-ready property' and 'one farm less for agriculture'.

It is the height of arrogance  and selfishness to hog  commerce that comes and goes, over agriculture that only goes once and when its gone its gone forever! 

Agricultural land must be protected! 

The fact of the matter is that the Region of Niagara has ample 'Shovel Ready' property available! Predicated on the City of Welland's stated scenario, the true option for Welland is to clean up its act or steer commercial development to other areas of the Niagara Peninsula. Or is Welland's relationship as a member of the Region of Niagara considered 'what's yours is mine and what's mine is my own' ?

A city administration has no business cannibalizing its own municipality for the sake of their unholy propensity to TAX and SPEND!

Perhaps its the self-inflicted years of pollution that causes the City of Welland elected and hired officials to act out on their constituents and expect no one will notice. This time their nonsense has gone viral coast to coast via CBC!

The Citizens of Welland deserve better
