of course it can and is a common practice in many parts of the world!

What triggered our interest was the thought that Canada's Parliamentary form of Democracy could in any way be compared to the so-called democracy of tyrannical countries simply because we get to vote
.
Still, we witness some disturbing government activities involving the devaluation of private property rights. The following link prompted 'News Alert Niagara' to request answers from all of the elected officials of the Town of Fort Erie, Ontario. Is it because of embarrassment or fear that prompts the Town's Councilors into such shameful silence about despicable acts?
.

We emailed each and every town Councilor (Twice) followed by placing our request on the Town's comment page. The following is the only response we have received to date! 11/11/11:A.M.

If Canada's Parliamentary form of Democracy is worth more than just the ability to simply vote, then the question has to be whether or not the government has the unilateral right to demolish a Citizen's house because that government doesn't like the way you keep your backyard?
.
'News Alert Niagara' politely asked the Town of Fort Erie the Question as shown above.
.
'News Alert Niagara' is now demanding answers both from The Town of Fort Erie and from any government official of any rank or level of Government.
.
If the Town of Fort Erie acted outside its authority, what if anything is going to be done about it?
.
If the Town of Fort Erie acted within its right to unilaterally demolish a citizen's house based on how a backyard is kept then one might well conclude that our Canadian Parliamentary form of Democracy has similarity to tyrannical countries based simply on ability to vote.

'News Alert Niagara' salutes the brave individuals who fought and are still fighting for everyone's private property rights against tyrannical government entities!
.
These gallant Citizens say have had enough of Municipalities, Conservation Authorities, Provincial Government Agencies and NGO's expropriating our private property rights without compensation. We work too hard to have our land rights taken away from us. Our own tax dollars are continuously fighting against us. It is not fair that we purchase land to have the terms of land use changed and restricted well after ownership. We feel like we can never get ahead. We believe this is unlawful and unconstitutional.
In particular we salute the men and women who are courageously launching a very expensive Constitutional Challenge on Private Property Rights on behalf of all property owners!

Well written! We do work way too hard to buy a house or business. We witness municipalities who ignore the fact that they should not charge someone for a violation when the business was pre-existing before the bylaw was made. *The business was there legally due to the fact the by-law came afterwards, therefore, is legal non-conforming. The practice to take a citizens who won in court back for a new trial has to stop, it is robbing the tax payer of a great deal of money that could be used to address pressing issues in the community, like homelessness, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhere I live I see the pressure of the municipality on student housing is very aggressive requiring very expensive court hearings for landlords. The final result will be there will be few housing units available and those so expensive few students will be able to continue with their education in this city.

ReplyDeleteSarnia has been trying to steal my home, and the prime real estate that it sits on, by way of bogus by-law practices for years.
ReplyDeleteThey even issued a bogus notice while I was in the hospital near death, and further compromised my health and decimated our nest egg for such emergencies, by demanding the notice be mitigated despite obvious evidence that I wasn't in the position to undertake anything in it (I weighed 120 lbs coming home). I'm certain it was simply a coincidence that two city hall employees saw me in the hospital.
Though I may be poor, and in their mind a perfect target, I am public as all hell. a big mouth when it comes to injustice, able to follow the money to which POS was trying to drive me out this time so his slumlord friends could steal the place and a respected member of my community. They backed off, 9 months after the fact, but by then the damage had been done.
By then I had lost a years worth of healing, was ruined financially from having to hire out work that I would usually do myself and it had a terrible effect on my wife's mental health.
Thankfully the courts are gonna see things my way and my neighbours, the only people who should be allowed to level a by-law complaint, support me in a situation that may cause issues for them.
