The scenario is always the same.
Well intentioned decision-makers supposedly doing their best to pass rules and regulations for the betterment of society or a least that is the hope and trust of their constituents.
Now we come to the morbid bid because we have no way of stopping it; it being the penchant for our decision makers for taking out their varied frustrations on the nearest source of satisfaction, that being financially attacking property owners.
News Alert Niagara has no issue with the development of laws to prevent degradation of property standards but the problem lies in the application of the law.
Desire a forest canopy - financially attack property owners, with hefty fines, over their private property trees!
Trouble with your beaches you've polluted - Charge for Beach parking!
Troubled by Scribble Graffiti - financially penalize Graffiti victims!
Offended by homeless camps - jack up the cost of home ownership?
Can't take care of your manufacturing sector - sit in silence as they are driven out "until hell freezes over"!
Can't attract Manufacturing - display intolerance!
Can't look after your downtown - Burden downtown with an expensive and feckless Downtown Association!
The reason civic leaders financially attack private property is because private property has equity! Their is no money available from the homeless and they can't catch Graffiti artists so they go after home equity predicated on the self-created dearth of manufacturing and its inherit ability to generate new wealth.
The
latest hint of trouble can be viewed starting at the 1:50 mark of the St.
Catharines City Council Meeting - June 13, 2022 where the crises of
long grass is being compared to the hazards of snow and icy sidewalks! Our
feckless councilors agonized over raising long grass fines from $250 per day to
$1000 per day and speeding up fine collection; again on their constant
targeting of property owners!
All this while we have guns, drugs, gangs, murder and mayhem or at least many more important things to worry about than long grass and financially attacking property owners!
Interesting is the fact that after our civic leaders pass their laws they wash their hands of the outcome of their decisions. When their well-meant decisions are abused or misused they tend to go silent. Even when informed, they say nothing because their political career is more important!
News Alert Niagara courteously kept City Council apprised of the most disgusting abuses of Citizens, which can be read by Clicking Here. What The City of St. Catharines did to Mr. Wakulich should have landed the perpetrators in jail!
News Alert Niagara never heard a single word from these 'Integrity Laden' characters. Not once did we receive explanation or even a correction to the information we provided as evidenced by their dearth of comment available to them at the bottom of hundreds of articles.
At the time of this publication News Alert Niagara has over 555,000 page views plus untold numbers of online readers.
Not once were we invited to talk about any of our articles, not even the disgusting Wakulich story! If we had we could have told about listening to the City's prosecutor on the phone to St. Catharines calling from the Welland Court House trying to determine how many more thousands he should demand from Mr. Wakulich!
Don't worry folks, even after this story, sent via email (June 23) directly to these 'Integrity Laden' characters, we won't expect a response!

During the June 13, 2022 episode of St. Catharines City Council, the matter of integrity was brought up predicated on the Integrity Commissioner's findings that Integrity is intact even when the will of the voter is negated!
Perhaps Mayor Integrity should be asked about the Camilleri story where he turned his back on another citizen so a city worker could get away with flooding out the neighboring Camilleri property.
We are sorry to report that the only thing louder than their deafening silence is the irritating grind of their self proclaimed integrity!

The homeless situation, the fees for parking so you can go to the beach, the forever increases in municipal taxes that are stressing working families and those on fixed income (their pension not keeping up with the cost of living and other expenses) is becoming a monumental burden. It begs the question, "What are the municipalities and the Region doing with our money?" We have never seen such a boom in the housing adding more taxes to the coffers. And yet the municipalities and Region continue to hammer us with increases in taxes year after year! I feel for those who will lose their homes with the recession, increase in municipal taxes and higher interest rates. Where are the people to go when that happens? It's time to have a serious discussion about getting rid of either the municipalities or the Region. We can no longer afford both.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that government at all levels has no interest in anything but how to get as much money out of hardworking taxpayers as they possibly can. Our rights and freedoms are being eroded at breakneck speed, while our finances are depleted by simply trying to buy the basics necessary for survival. Anyone who can't see the corruption and collusion behind the chaos is willfully blind! We are at war with our own governments.
