The Corruption Continues

Here we go again!

‘News Alert Niagara’ would like to know when is the best time to apprise the Niagara Regional Government on the issue of budget spending if not at the Budget Review Committee of the Whole?

Click here to witness for yourself the crafty Machinations of the Regional Council in action.

You will notice that on the agenda was a Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority presentation regarding the $millions in taxpayer Dollars required to operate.

You will also notice is that a Citizen’s presentation regarding the same $millions in taxpayer Dollars wasted on the NPCA was denied.

You will also notice that once again the NPCA Board members were able to skew the vote thus denying a dissenting presentation!

You will watch as the big boy chair was turned over to a ‘foul-mouthed lying bully’ NPCA board member, who actually tried to stymie Citizen Smith without a vote.

Then the Councilors had to vote without ever having had a chance, their right and/or responsibility to see what was in Smith’s presentation.

What was in the presentation was serious and pertinent information precisely to do with the budget and the wasted spending on the NPCA.

It gets worse!

The promise to allow Smith to speak at the next meeting turns out to be just another typical ruse to deny free speech!

If that isn't bad enough, smith is told the following:

From: "Fabiano, Frank" <Frank.Fabiano@niagararegion.ca>
To: Ed Smith <edsmith121@yahoo.ca>; "Norio, Ann-Marie" <Ann-Marie.Norio@niagararegion.ca>

Subject: RE: Request to Appear as a Delegation at Budget Review Committee of Whole

Thank you for your email and request for an explanation.  We do want to ensure that you receive the correct information so that you may make your concerns known to members of Council.

As I recall, my recommendation to you yesterday in both instances was suggesting that you follow the requirements of the Procedural By-Law.

Section 13.1 states:

Any person, group of persons or organization wishing to address a Standing Committee with respect to a matter already on a Committee agenda shall submit a written request to the Clerk no later than 9:00 a.m. on the Thursday* the week prior to the meeting of the Committee. Delegation requests to address a Standing Committee on matters not already on the agenda must be submitted at least 14 days before the date and time of the meeting of the Committee. The Clerk shall direct delegations to the appropriate Committee and delegations will not be permitted at more than one Committee.

Please note the reference to the request being required 14 days before the date and time of the meeting of the Committee. Your request to appear as a delegation for tomorrow’s meeting does not meet those requirements.

I hope this message provides you with the information that you need so that you can make your concerns known to Council.

Respectfully,

Frank Fabiano
Acting Regional Clerk
Niagara Region
Phone: 905-980-6000, Ext. 3220
Please Note: *The agenda is not posted before the application deadline!

Government Suing Citizens? What's new?

Only in Canada, Eh! Not hardly pilgrim!

The list is growing to the point where the short list has got to be the list of the things going right!

Complain about government skullduggery and you are immediately faced with demeaning ridicule and threats of personal destruction via lawsuits.

Any fool could at least demand that no government agency attack Citizens without informing the fool in charge!

But there you have it!

We have fools in charge!

Doesn't know or care what's going in Blind River!

Doesn't know or care what's going on in Pelham

Doesn't know or care that 3 dozen empire building Conservation Authorities are trampling all over Citizens!

Doesn't know or care that their ideas are so wonderful that they have to be mandated!

Doesn't know or care about the perils of overspending!

...and that is just a sample of what's going on in Ontariario!

With some notable exceptions our society has been lulled into a concept of political teams where Citizens compete with one another in a mad race to the bottom! It's come down to the fact that there isn't a dime's worth of difference between political parties more interested in themselves and power than the country.

The Perils of Secrecy

The news screams out that the much anticipated KPMG audit absolves the Town of Pelham authorities of financial skullduggery.

Niagara at Large lamented that “There Is No Fiscal Time Bomb in the Town of Pelham … Not Even A Firecracker!”

Well isn’t that just marvelous!

The Town of Pelham Citizens, the Citizens of Niagara and the wasted time and effort of the Niagara Regional Government reacting to nothing more than a disturbing situation created by unnecessary secrecy!

What did come out of another special meeting of council was the revelation that some people $gained enormously through convoluted financial arrangements.

What didn’t come out was exactly who gained financially, the effects of inordinate spending, spending ramification on property taxes and why if the treasurer is so happy with the situation did she call for an outside KPMG audit?

Since KPMG is capable of somewhat clarifying the disquieting financial situation surrounding the convoluted purchases of property in a mere 50 minutes, surely the Mayor, the Councilors, the Treasurer and all of the Pelham staff could have  answered alarmed Citizen’s and concerned Regional Councilors questions in less than an astonishing matter of weeks, months and even years!

Contrary to Pelham’s CAO many suspect KPMG did not conduct a full forensic audit which would have “accounted for exactly who received every dime”.
