How many times has complacency and blind compliance lead to heart breaking disaster.
Perhaps the better question would be to ask, what society has ever faired well when the Citizens failed to hold their leaders accountable?
The only Province with a 'Safety Clause' is British Columbia. BC had the wackiest politics in all of Canada until they brought in their 'Recall Legislation' which cleaned up their wacky situation when two legislators were recalled by the Citizens because of improper conduct!
For the rest of Canada we are bombarded with treasure seekers and charlatans operating criminal cabals disguised as political parties! There is no accountability once they have been elected! As we are witnessing, once elected they do as they please and there is nothing to stand in their way!
Politics is not a spectator sport! All politics is local; meaning politics is something demanding that Citizens not only pay attention to but also to participate.
Politics is more than voting for a pretty face or believing fancy words.
Politics is holding politicians and candidates accountable at all times! The least you can do is ask pertinent questions and listen to their answers! The most serious question at this time is; do you pledge a recall mechanism/legislation?
After all, what civic leader worth anything would deny his constituents accountability? The embarrassment is theirs NOT YOURS if they refuse to answer your question. No answer or pledge for recall will tell you all you need to know to make an informative decision.
To effect a recall is arduous and difficult but at least it is a last ditch escape mechanism when the chips are down and a tyrannical fascist gains control of our Country.
If we can't stand on guard for our country; Who will?

False promises, commitments which aren't met, platitudes, and low resolution ideologies have become substitutes for dealing with complex multivariate issues. Most often they're employed in lieu of sincere and earnest evaluations of the actual sources for human suffering and societal problems. Recognizing that problems and suffering are both inevitable and inherent to our existence is where the journey for truth must begin because half way measures will avail us nothing. For us to deal with the suffering nature of existence the quest for meaning and solutions in the face of it must begin within ourselves. And the most significant suffering we endure is due to our own inability to be honest with ourselves. Which is why humans are the only living creature capable of constructing lies then believing their own lies.
ReplyDeleteGaslighting is how these lies will manifest themselves by projecting the blame for suffering and unresolved problems onto others. If you have made a comprehensive defense of reality and the pursuit of truth using reason, ethics, epistemology and ontology, yet you're still being accused of stating things you've not stated, then you're being gaslighted. It's far easier to project our inadequacies onto others rather than examine our own flawed thinking. This is why I choose to avoid at all costs defending my moral rectitude but rather choose to defend what I can prove to be demonstrably true. Sadly in the Academy today if students refuse to base their arguments on their professors ideological possession they will receive lousy grades due to their "educators" inherent prejudices. And the same issue exists in Postmodern legislatures where ideology has come to mean more than practical solutions to the problems we face
I need to clarify that gaslighting occurs only under circumstances where someone is being falsely accused. If you point out damaging behaviour to someone whose conduct is impacting you negatively, particularly when it is habitual, that is not gaslighting. That is giving the other party an opportunity to reflect. If upon reflection they become angered by your assertiveness then you're likely looking at someone who refuses to alter negatively patterned behaviour. When this occurs if at all possible you must distance yourself from that person since their behaviour is harmful to both themselves as well as to others. Recognize that the only person whose behaviour you can change is yourself. If they refuse your warning it's sayonara time.
