A Book Like no Other

 An Unpredictable Place

 Beyond Hand me Downs

It took years for Preston Haskell to finally finish it.

It being this book so relevant today.

The following is a excerpt of 'An Unpredictable Place' - beyond hand me downs.

“Why not Mr. Haskell?” she responded in kind. “Why are you so sure
that a system of mixed grades is hopeless? Perhaps you should consider the ramifications of mixed grades, particularly with your position on interactive computer education coupled with the power of pure social intercourse. Given that you contend that less than two hours per day of applied computer learning is equal to a day’s educational capacity of our current system, and given that you contend that social intuitiveness would be better advanced through a proffered system of arts, sports, etiquette, and professional mentoring, and given that you contend that we might possibly need a greater number of teachers to periodically and privately tutor, perhaps you should also consider the power of mixed grades.

“Consider this, Mr. Haskell,” she continued in a snippy manner, “if you think that a one room schoolhouse is so hopeless, how do you justify this hopelessness, considering your admiration and respect for all of your heroes who garnered some portion of their education in exactly that situation?”

I stared at Ayn through the rearview mirror considerably longer than a driver should. Predicated on my growing respect for this woman, I concluded that my assertions would suffer if I ignored her counsel.
